1) JPEG: This is a picture format that you can quickly drag into your Facebook or Twitter status update area to upload. It's a good idea to reduce the JPEG before submitting it so that it looks better on your profile photo or cover photo!

Pro Tip: PNG files are like JPEGs but they can reduce the amount of space they take up on your website while producing a higher quality image (especially when images are taken with a high quality DLSR camera).

2) PDF: A PDF document is created from an original word processing document through a process known as scanning and OCR (Optical Character Recognition). This is the file format you would use for a document-type digital product, like an ebook. Often you'll see it marketed as "get a free chapter of this book before its release...Click here"

3) Vector: Vector graphic files are most often used for logos, illustrations, and clip art. Vector graphics consist of lines describing the kind of curve desired with coordinates that denote where on an illustration they fall to create a specific shape. These files can be printed and they do not blur or pixelate. They are best used with programs like Adobe Illustrator and Publisher.

Pro Tip: Always specify that you want the vector files of your logo from your designer. Often the designer will refer to them as source files, but it's a good practice to make this clarification.
